Her new EP, titled ‘Unboxed’, is inspired by breaking away from societal expectations and embracing one’s true potential. Nissi hopes to convey messages of elevation, resonance, appreciation of friendship, and the importance of taking time to unwind through her new body of work. The EP features Fireboy DML and Teni.
Singer, Nissi Ogulu, also known as Nissi, has emphasized that her voice is her unique selling point and that her music is aimed at addressing real-life experiences.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, she stated, “I believe what sets me apart is my sound and my message. It’s also evident in the way I create my music. I am determined to address things that happen in life and things that I feel we should all connect with, which are real experiences.
“I think my voice will always be my unique selling point. At the end of the day, my voice can only be mine, and the way I use it in my music will always be distinctive.”
When discussing the inspiration behind her new Extended Play (EP) titled ‘Unboxed’, Nissi explained, “I chose that title because I wanted it to reflect the message I wanted to convey – to discard the preconceived notions that people must fit into certain categories because society has made it that way for easier comprehension.
“I believe that we are all a mix of various things, and in my opinion, that’s a good thing because it means that one is maximizing their potential. What’s the point of life if I restrict myself because I think people won’t understand me? I don’t believe in that. I think everyone should strive to maximize their potential as much as possible.”
Furthermore, Nissi discussed the message she intends to convey through her new body of work, which features collaborations with Fireboy DML and Teni.
She added, “There are different energies in the EP. There is the energy of growth, resonance, and appreciation of friendship. If you’re a workaholic like me and understand the importance of taking time to relax, you’ll love the song ‘Unwind’.”
