Oyinlola Odumewu, a Nigerian visual artist, has painted for 72 hours in an attempt to set a new Guinness World record for a painting marathon. She accomplished her goal on October 28, 2023, and was cheered on by friends at the venue. However, she continued to paint in order to exceed her own record. If successful, Odumewu will become the third Guinness World Record holder from Nigeria this year, following the achievements of 17-year-old Philip Solomon and celebrity chef Hilda Baci. Solomon set the record for the most skips on one foot in 30 seconds, while Baci achieved the longest cooking marathon.

Nigerian visual artist, Oyinlola Odumewu, has embarked on a 72-hour painting marathon in an attempt to set a new Guinness World record.

Also known as Lola Mewu, she started the attempt on October 28, 2023 at the Safe House, Adeola Hopewell Street, Eti-Osa, Lagos.

By 7pm on Tuesday, she had reached her goal of 72 hours.

After a countdown to the 72-hour mark, the artist was celebrated by friends at the venue.

Despite achieving her target, she has continued to paint in order to surpass her own record.

Based in Lagos, she aims to break the previous record set by Belgian artist Roland Palmaerts, who held the record for the longest individual painting time for 10 years.

Palmaerts was certified as a Guinness World Record holder after painting from October 3 to 5, 2013, in Arches, France. He created 60 paintings during the 60-hour attempt.

If successful, Odumewu will become the third Nigerian Guinness World Record holder this year, following the achievements of 17-year-old pupil Philip Solomon and celebrity chef Hilda Baci.

In May 2023, Solomon, a student of Oyemekun Grammar School Akure, Ondo State, was recognized as the Guinness World Record holder for the most skips on one foot in 30 seconds. He achieved this feat in January 2023, recording 153 skips on one foot in 30 seconds to surpass the previous record of 145 held by Rasel Islam of Bangladesh.

Baci was declared the world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by Guinness in June 2023, with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes. She cooked from May 11 to 15, preparing over 100 pots of food during the challenge.
