This incident is part of a recurring pattern of market fires in Nigeria, with previous incidents in Bodija, Agbeni, and Araromi. The Ogunpa Labaowo market in Agbokojo, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was engulfed in flames during the early hours of Friday.

The fire has resulted in the destruction of numerous assets, with affected individuals grieving the loss of their belongings estimated to be worth millions of naira.

According to sources, the inferno destroyed items such as concrete mixers, mattresses, and automobile repair equipment.

Abdul-Jelil Oladimeji, a specialist in car shaft repairs and a victim of the fire, expressed his dismay over losing equipment worth several million naira.

Meanwhile, Azeez Ibrahim, the chairman of the Ogunpa Labaowo Plant Mechanic Association, accused the surge in power supply to the area as the cause of the fire outbreak.

Ibrahim also mentioned that many concrete mixers and their engines were destroyed and appealed to the state government for assistance.

Infernos in Nigeria, especially in marketplaces, have unfortunately been a recurring experience.

In April of this year, a fire ravaged the popular Bodija plank market in the state, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

Another market, known as Agbeni market and considered one of Nigeria’s largest fabric markets, was also reportedly razed down by fire in Ibadan in May of this year.

The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on a Sunday morning.

In January, a fire broke out at the Araromi Spare Parts market at Agodi Gate in Ibadan, affecting approximately 25 shops before authorities intervened.

Sources revealed that the fire was caused by careless burning of refuse, which traders at the market neglected to extinguish before closing their shops.

The flames continued to burn until it escalated.

In a separate story, a well-known Lagos State socialite, Farida Abdulkabir, also known as Farida Sobowale, recently explained the reasons behind her suicidal thoughts and attempt to jump into a lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Abdulkabir, the owner of House of Phreedah, cited ongoing crises, a failed marriage, and other factors as the cause of her desperation.

According to her, frustrations from her failed N100 million marriage with another Lagos socialite, Demola Okulaja, pushed her to the brink.

A viral social media voice note captured Abdulkabir expressing regret for putting her children in a difficult position and forgiving her ex-husband while praying that he finds another wife.

Meanwhile, Farida and her estranged husband have engaged in public altercations, revealing shocking family secrets and attacking each other on social media, as reported by various media outlets.
